What this is, and how to use it
A short guide to the whole library — five minutes' reading for a lifetime's shelf.
What this is
Open Materia Medica is a plain-language homeopathic materia medica: 344 remedy portraits, drawn from the public-domain classics — Boericke's manual, Clarke's Dictionary, Kent's Lectures, Allen's Keynotes, Nash's Leaders, Farrington's Clinical Materia Medica — and set beside the real toxicology and modern pharmacology of each source substance. Every remedy is one page: the classical picture set out in everyday words, the difficult terms explained, the look-alikes cross-linked, and the honest science alongside. It is compiled by Dr. Sohil Momin, BHMS, and it is not medical advice — a companion for study and reference, not a substitute for a physician.
1How to read a remedy page
Every portrait follows the same shape, so the eye learns it once. Read it top to bottom and you have met the remedy whole.
2Find a remedy, five ways
By symptom
Type any symptom, keynote, modality or substance — burning, worse midnight, fear of death, thirstless.
By name
The full index of all 344, one line each, grouped by batch.
By condition
Everyday conditions with their most-used remedies in a single line.
By rubric
The most-used rubrics of daily practice, with their first remedies.
By kingdom
Animal, vegetable, mineral, sarcode, nosode — each kingdom's signature.
By family
Snakes, spiders, the Kali family, nightshades and more — sixteen groups.
3Work with it
- Compare two portraits — the Compare page shows any two remedies side by side in frames, opening with the classic pair, Arsenicum album and Veratrum album. The quickest way to tell look-alikes apart.
- Print a handout — every page prints cleanly: the navigation and the search box drop away and the layout holds. Any remedy page becomes a patient handout with one Ctrl+P.
- Carry it offline — hosted on the web, the site installs on a phone as an offline app: the whole library, no internet. Search, the evidence, references and glossary all travel with it.
- Move with the keyboard — press
/anywhere to jump to the search box,Escto clear it, and click any remedy name to open its page.
