The substance in real medicine Pharmacology

What this section is: the pharmacology and toxicology of the source substance. It is not clinical evidence that a homeopathic preparation of it treats any condition. What controlled trials do and do not show is set out on the Evidence page.

Ox bile was a genuine, official digestive drug of the pharmacopeias for two centuries — its bile acids really emulsify fats and move the gall — retired when modern hepatology and surgery arrived. Its chemistry survives in genuine modern bile-acid drugs: ursodeoxycholic acid, used today to dissolve certain gallstones and treat cholestatic liver disease — the ox's gift, refined.
